SHORT PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The implementation of the project and the planned partnership are strategically designed to ensure a positive impact on the psychophysical development and social inclusion of the target group – children with developmental disabilities. The planned activities will create conditions for easier integration, learning and, ultimately, more successful education of the children involved. By equipping the partner organisations with sports equipment and props, we will ensure regional coverage, conditions for launching separate units implementing our programmes and the availability of those programmes to children, and through cooperation and the exchange of work experience, the mutual strengthening of all the organisations involved.

The basic goal of the project is to improve the social skills and psychophysical development of children with developmental disabilities by introducing targeted, strategically planned leisure activities.

The activities will include sports playgroups for children with developmental disabilities in Vukovar, Ilok and Osijek, which will be based on learning martial arts, as well as other sports and recreational programmes.

With this partnership we want to establish cross-sector cooperation and strengthen the capacities of educational institutions in terms of expanding the network of social services in Vukovar-Srijem and Osijek-Baranja counties and professional work with children with developmental disabilities, as well as to ensure equal opportunities for children in rural areas, but also in towns that do not have a developed network of social services.

A specific feature of the project is the training of kinesiologists in martial arts, which stand out in the upbringing and education of children because, in addition to the purely physical component, they involve a whole range of social and empathic skills that are developed through training. The backbone is the non-violent resolution of conflict: through play and technique, children learn how to become aware of themselves, of others around them and of their position in the group, and they learn the basic principles of self-defence and avoiding conflict, but the greatest value of the training lies in gaining self-confidence and becoming aware of their own values and abilities.

PROJECT GOAL

  • Improving the existing motor-functional abilities of users and the coordination of movement
  • Increasing self-confidence and self-awareness
  • Improving intellectual and socialisation abilities
  • Ensuring the preconditions for socialisation and inclusion
  • Non-violent conflict resolution, avoiding conflict, principles of self-defence
  • Organising leisure time
  • Relief and help for parents of children with developmental disabilities

PROJECT BENEFICIARIES

The project will include a total of 150 children with developmental disabilities (motor difficulties, intellectual disabilities, sensory impairments, children with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, rare syndromes, etc.) from Vukovar-Srijem and Osijek-Baranja counties, aged 2 to 18.
